Interview Tips for Au Pairs: Clean up your Online Profiles

If you haven’t been living under a rock for the last 10 years, chances are you have an online presence. On Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or one of the multitudes of platforms available these days for social media.

It’s a great idea to check out your public social presence when you are in process of seeking a new role. I recommend using a device you don’t usually use to do a search on yourself.  Go through your accounts and remove anything that might be viewed as inappropriate by potential families. Got a ton of party pics on your profile? That can easily scare any client into thinking perhaps you won’t be the most reliable person for the job. Be sure to edit your privacy settings. Public profiles are guaranteed to be one of the first thing parents review.

You may also like to refrain from posting pics of other people’s children. Always get permission before posting a pic of a child that is not your own, online. If the client sees this is your regular type of post, they may actually be fearful that you think it’s okay to do this, and there are very few parents who want to advertise their children to a bunch of strangers. Its dangerous and we frown on this, strongly.
